Blog Entry 1

This is the pre-beta launch blog post. Mostly I just wanted to get this out there to fill space on this website, but truthfully I wanted to put some valuable information in it as well.

Here is a little background on Twivaways. It all began February 26th, 2009. I was thinking about how I would really like to grow my Twitter followers legitimately by offering up a bribe. I wanted to do some sort of giveaway but didn't know how.

I asked around and no one seemed to have an automatic answer other then "use a random number generator with 0 and your total followers in it...take that number...and count up that many followers on your followers list...that's your winner!!!" This seemed ridiculous. I thought there had to be some sort of service out there that would allow you to randomly pick one of your Twitter followers. NO!!! There wasn't!!!

Well it bugged me that there wasn't, and I knew I had some programming skills. However, I wasn't sure about how to go about all this with not being familiar with the Twitter API. I had heard it was easy though. So, I thought I would give it a shot.

Here it is a couple of weeks later and I have a little testing left to do, but the overall functionality and website is here and in working order. I look forward to seeing where this will go as I am with every other Twitter application I come accross and utilize.

I do want to say a very special thanks to my wife (@mysteph) for being especially understanding of me. She knows when I get an idea and I feel as strongly about creating it she knows that there really is no stopping me. Nonetheless, she has not griped me out once for being up until 2 in the morning working on this project.
